Hi, I am designing a 10 meter free standing build up column to support signs on the column top. In my design, I checked single wide flange column worked for lateral torsional buckling strength. I added second wide flange column (Side by side) for serviceability. Can any body tell me how often battens required and which chapter I should refer to in AISC/CISC? Thanks!

I would stitch weld them together - check your shear flow and design for that. Also, I'm imagining a billboard sign, (so pretty big), and I would expect deflections big enough to consider a P-delta analysis which might under size your original design.

Any reason you are not using round pipe? That is what is used on the more common monopole signs I have seen. Lot of torsion to deal with in monopole signs.
