I am verifying reinforcing of an existing roof for an added mech unit. We have 4x14 existing joists at 6ft oc that have lvls added on each side for additional strength. I am trying to verify what % of the load the 4x14 takes and what % the lvls take. I have used the parallel axis theorem up to this point, but wanted to make sure i was on the right track. Thanks for any input.

Assuming they carry uniform loads and they are all stitch bolted together so that they deflect uniformly, they will carry the load in proportion to their respective EI values.

Take care that the load sharing will only be valid for loads applied after the sistered LVL are installed.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
