I'm analyzing a built-up triple 2x floor beam that has splices in between supports. In my mind the simplest thing to do is to analyze it as a double 2x since at the splice I effectively only have two 2x's. However, the spliced 2x in the built-up section effectively cantilevers to the splice helping out somewhat. What reference would one use for intermediate splicing such as this? What about nailing/bolting patterns for built-up bending members?

I would count on the double 2x concept.

How you can determine the actual nailing pattern that exists (I'm assuming this is an existing beam) and what the nail capacities are, how the flexural stress in the lumber flows out through the nails and back into the next 2x through other nails is not an easy task.
