I cannot find definitive guidance on the correct position to calculate moments for a buried box structure. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could answer the questions below.

Question 1 - when calculating moments acting on a buried box structure where (and why) should the centre of rotation be assumed.

a) the centre of the box under the base
b) the extreme corner of the box under the base
c) somewhere else.

Question 2 - Can certain situations warrant analysing as (b) and others as (a). For example a shallow box on a hard foundation, versus a deep box on a flexible foundation?
