Burner Management systems

Hi! I have two questions:

1. Could anyone please advice me what exactly is "Burner Management system" and let me know what is the mechanical Engineers role in bulding this Burner Management?

2. Also, could any one let me know the general steps invloved in commissioning a Fired heater ( Other than testing of Pre heaters, Fans etc)
