Butt Fusion/ Electro-Fission/Welding Plastic Polymer Pipelines - Different materials

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to carry out these welding operations when the materials are different? Im thinking of an application where i might want to weld HDPE and Glass Filled Nylon 66.

Im trying to design a pipeline fitting that can be welded to a HDPE or PVC pipeline , the fitting will need to be manufactured out of something with high UTS and Hardness

Can anyone share any information on the technical challenges of doing such an operation .

Not generally a good idea to weld dissimilar materials, plastics even more so, and getting such a joint certified for a pipeline...sheesh. But, crazier ideas have been proposed. A lot of research and time would need to be invested to determine methods for joining and suitable NDT to find flaws in the resultant joints, etc. etc.
