Are we allowed to do buttering for the pressure vessel as per ASME or PD5500 and equivalent standards. If so please address me to the relevant clause.
Vessel Working Pressure is 165 KPa
Vessel Design Pressure is 248 Kpa
Shell Thickness is 6mm or 8mm
2" pipe needed to be welded to the shell.

Buttering for what purpose? To add additional wall thickness because of distortion, defect removal, damage during fabrication or what?

Local weld restoration is permitted by ASME B&PV Code, Section VIII, Div 1.

Weld Defect removal by grinding machine caused parent metal loss on the shell plate, so for rewelding of 2" pipe on the shell, buttering is needed to compensate parent metal loss, Nozzel opening is about 3" or 4", can we do buttering? could you address me in detail?

Yes, you can perform local weld repair. Review ASME Section VIII, Div 1 Part UW. The information is all there for weld repair using a temper bead or conventional technicque and inspection requirements.

I haven't found anything concerning buttering , UW-38 doesn't say anything about buttering.

BUTTERING IS WELDING
