Hi,

Could anyone help me to find out what is equivalent european steel grade to C40 steel according to ISO norms?
I am going to use C45 round bar in accordance EN 10204, is it equivalent?

Thanks in advance.

C45E (1.1191) or C45R (1.1201) according to EN 10083-2 are not exactly equivalent to C40 according to ISO 683. C40E (1.1186) or C40R (1.1189) are the equivalent grades, depending on the desired S content: E grades have 0.035% max and R grades have a specified range of 0.020-0.040%. EN 10204 is not a product specification-- it just describes the required certification documents. The carbon content of C45 is 0.42-0.50 whereas for C40 it is 0.37-0.44, so while they are very similar, they are not exactly equivalent.
