2-in a trench
3-PVC sleeve
4-Conduit
5-Pipe
6-Duct bank

Different methods = different costs,
different ampacity due to different cooling/heating characteristics,
different equipment required to install,
different levels of protection from external damage,
different space requirements
different ease of installation,
different ways of making cable repairs.

Did I mention different costs among the various methods?
