Greetings,
can anyone point me to a formula or rule of thumb for estimating cable on a reel? Either how much is on a full reel or how many feet can I put on a reel.
I recognize a simple calculus problem there but I'm too far removed from school to dredge it out of my stodgy brain cells. Can anyone help?

Thanx in advance, Steve

Excellent link IRStuff.
Damn.... I wish I had that when I worked doing inventory for electrical supply houses in college. We had an extremely complicated formula that probably did the same thing, but it took us about 1/2 hour on a slide rule to work through all the parts of the equation for each reel! I offered to condense the equation for my boss at one time, but he didn't trust me (after all, I was just a 20 year old snot-nosed kid) and insisted that we stick to his tried and true version. The one shown there is probably the condensation of that formula.
