Hello,

I read a recent post that included a problem with excessive heating do to the way the cables were stacked. I can not find it, but there seemed to ba some knowledgable people in this area....

I am going to be feeding 3 MV toshiba JK power cells with 2 runs of 3/0 per phase (400amps each - 1000V system). Only two will run at the full 400A's the third will run at about 1/4 of that.

Are there any issues if I run the cables in the following fashion?

A A A A A A
B B B B B B
C C C C C C

The cables would be evenly spaced using a product called koz blocks (
Any help appreciated.

Regards,
TULUM

I am only going about 15 feet from the secondary of a transformer to the cells......

Hi tulum;
How about

A1 B1 C2 A2 B3 C3
B1 C1 A2 B2 C3 A3
C1 A1 B2 C2 A3 B3

Do I remember that your in Canada? Check the Canadian Electrical Code. There are some suggestions in the notes to the rules (Appendix B).
respectfully.

You say two #3/0 per phase, but your diagram seems to indicate six per phase. Two #3/0 should be adequate for 400 amps, if spaced. Take a look at the code requirements for cable tray installations.

The proposed arrangement will result in unbalanced impedances, which will result in a slight voltage unbalance (probably not noticable for 15ft). Waross's idea may help with that.

It sounds like you are building cablebus.

Thanks folks,

Waross,

Thanks for the reference...I will check the code. We could try the configuration you referenced...

Alehman,

Sorry... There are 3 feeder circuits each at 400A... i.e. (2) 1c per phase per feeder...

The electricians have come up with a couple other ways to run the cable.... I will keep you posted...
