Dear All,

We have to design cable trays with covers on flat roof according to Eurocode.
Understanding that a closed cable tray with cover is acting like a plane wing we are not sure how to implement correctly the norm.

We have to calculate it as per 1991-1-4 and we have different approaches:

1. As an element laying on the roof as per EN 1991-1-4, Cl. 7.2.3
2. As Canopy as per EN 1991-1-4, Cl. 7.3
3. As Construction Elements with rectangular sections per EN 1991-1-4, Cl. 7.6

The Ballasting of the tray will depend on a lot from the correct load assumption, and we are not sure, that is why we ask for the help of the forum.

Thank you in advance!

I think typo .. should be PLANE WING ?

I would follow the clause 7.6

7.6 Structural elements with rectangular sections

I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure..It is: Try to please everybody.
