Cables generating KVARs in ETAP

Hi Everybody,

I am having a problem in ETAP. I have solar power plant connected to 220kV network via 10km cable. Now, I entered physical parameters of the cable in ETAP library and let it calculate electrical parameters. After that I started low flow with the assumption that there are no power from solar panels in order to see KVARS that cables are generating but I get 0kvars.

I can not find the problem.

Any ideas?

I don’t know ETAP, but lots of analysis programs have options as to whether to include capacitances in the calculations. You might also try a really high impedance fault at the end of the line.

You can connect to the end bus only MW load (PF 100%) and start load flow. You will see MVar for a cable.
