Civil/Environmental

I currently perform Civil Design in ACAD 2007 & 2008. In order to station the centerline of a road, I am having to put the centerline into Civil 3D and station it. I was hoping that one of you more technically savvy guys/gals may know of an autolisp/script/tool/plugin/etc. that may allow me to station a centerline in ACAD 2007 or 2008. Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure the center line is a polyline then divide the centerline into 100' increments using the point command. No LISP required.

Chicopee - thanks for your reply, but thats not quite what I was looking for. You see, when we station one in C3D, it places the tick marks at the stations, labels the stations, labels the bearing and distance of all tangents, labels all curve data, marks and labels all PC's and PT's with station numbers, etc. If I do it your way, it is not much of a shortcut. I appreciate your reply, but I am looking for a time-saver. Thanks again, any other ideas?

The best way to create the stationing is by using Civil3D. In order to create a roadway profile and use the grading tools, a horizontal alignment will be needed anyway.

OK - perhaps I wasn't exactly clear enough. - I understand that design goes much faster and smoother in C3D. However, I am usually forced to design in ACAD 2008. Occasionally, I can free up a license long enough to station a centerline, and then I have to return to ACAD 2008. This is not my choice, the firm I work for has many seats of ACAD, but just a few seats of C3D. This is beyond my control. All of that being said, does anybody have the answer to my original question? I would think that a lisp routine, or add-on program, or script exists out there somewhere that would accomplish what I am asking for, I just need help finding it. My reply is not meant to sound unappreciative, I appreciate your help, but I am looking for this kind of functionality in ACAD 2008. Thanks anyway.

This is a late reply because I am out of the country. W/regular ACAD you can create attributed blocks to label each station however you will need to get the values at each station to fill in the attributes. I dont do LISP so I can not help you there.

Have you asked for a seat of Civil 3D? If not you should. Otherwise I'd ask a coworker who has Civil 3D to do it for me or allow me to do it on their computer. It doesn't take long to do. Threaten with bodily harm if necessary. ;-)

Daddycat,

Not to ask a silly question, but, do you see a pulldown menu titled "ALIGNMENT"? (I'm not trying to be rude, I just have to ask). Are you using either the Land Desktop or Civil Design extensions for Acad 2008, or is it straight forward Autocad 2008? If it is the generic Autocad 2008 version you will not find the tools you need within the program. Unfortunately I don't know of any LISP's or add-on's that will do what you want.

Good Luck

Could you describe exactly what you want the LISP to do? Draw a polyline with information positioned along the way? Or would you pick an already existing line and have something happen?

Using AutoCAD Mechanical 2006, UGNX4, XPsp2, MSOffice 2K3

borgunit - Stationing a centerline in civil engineering usually involves selecting an existing polyline, and the program puts a tic mark (usually about 5' in length & perpindicular to the polyline) every 50 feet, with a "station label" every 100 feet (i.e. at the 100 foot mark - 1+00, at the 200 foot mark - 2+00, etc.) Also, along each tangent section of the poly line there is bearing & distance info and all curves in the polyline get curve data. at every transition from tangent to curve, or curve to tangent, there is a label (i.e. PT = STA 1+47.24 or PC = sta 2.63.28, etc.) Civil 3D and Land Desktop have this functionality, but usually I am in Plain old ACAD 08. I hope this explains what I am looking for. Any ideas?
