What formats can cadkey read or write
most common formats that autocad can read are dwg, dxf, dxb, wmf, PLT (if done in HP/GL), etc...

From what I understand it will dxfout and dxfin. I was approched by a prospective client to edit some of their drawings and they tell me that there are some problems using this method as it changes some of the entities within the drawing which prove hard to resolve. I was hoping to find a direct conversion program/routine that solved this problem.

At my previous employer, we had AutoCAD 2000 and Cadkey '98. We were able to successfully translate drawings between the 2 with Cadkey's export feature. Cadkey can export a .dwg file (under the File menu there is an export option). The thing you must know is what version .dwg file Cadkey can read/write. The version of Cadkey we had could read/write up to version 14 Autocad files, so there were some features of ACAD 2000 we had to be careful of if we intended to transfer the files back and forth (multiple layouts for instance).

We also tried the dxf out/in and found it to be less than perfect. We had much better results with the export/import dwg.

Thanks for the tip Cowski. I will get back in touch with the client.
