Hello,

I'm doing a project with a partner in another office. He is using CAE 6.9 while I`m using still 6.7 (because of user subroutines, available compiler, ...).
Does anybody know, if there is a possibility for my colleague to save the .cae-files in 6.9 (or assembly) in a way that I can use it with my 6.7 ?
(.sat & .inp works but there is either the loss of geometry definition or the loss of the assembly definition)

Thanks in advance and happy holidays,
Rupert.

Export the assembly or parts and then read them back into 6.7 and start all over again with your interactions/loads etc. Alternatively wait 6 months for your IT department to install the latest version on all machines.. not that I'm complaining.

6.9 and 6.7 INP files are not compatible among themselves. 6.9 can read 6.7, but i'm not sure about vice versa.

@loki:
... the inp works (when its necessary, I could do minor changes in the input-file, in a way that 6.7 could read it). The problem is, that I also need the geometry information because I want to perform some shape optimisation ...

But thanks anyhow,
Rupert.

I am fairly sure you are out of luck. Backward compatibility is just not in the cards. If you have the CAD models, the input deck and methodology it might not be too bad. Try importing the INP and the CAD models. Delete the orphan mesh and attach the boundary conditions to the CAD models. Your partner might still have 6.7 and will be able to modify the files without killing them for you. I hope this helps.

Thanks a lot ... at least it is a final answer and I dont have to look for a possibility.
I will combine the data from the inp and the sat files as you suggested ... just some additional work for nothing :eek:(
Sad, because ,after my opinion, it must not be too hard to implement this in CAE.

Thanks again and MC&HNY,
Rupert.

you may be able to salvage the work from the JNL file also. It is a recording of all the steps used to create the model. This suggestion might be a major time waster if errors creep up, so be warned.
