CAE - How to Select Unmeshed Cells?

I have created a rather complex 3-D solid model in CAE, that has cells that are completely hidden from view (internal to the structure) due to partitioning. I have meshed all of the cells that I can see. However, when I submit the job, I get a warning that there are unmeshed regions in my part.

How do I show/select the unmeshed cells, so that I can go ahead and mesh them?

I choose not to select a "grouping" of cells to mesh, because the built-in mesher wants to remesh the entiree model, relaxing the edge seeds, which results in an unacceptable mesh.

Use Tools->DisplayGroup to remove cells that you have already meshed from the viewport.

I have never noticed that meshing all the cells at once verses individually makes any difference but I never thought to check.

I hope this helps.

Rob - forgive me for being obtuse, but exactly how do you do that? When I look at the "cells" selection option, I can only select by picking from the viewport. I can't see an option to unselect cells that are already meshed.

There is no option but if you view the mesh you should be able to select by hand. I would assume that some of the guys here that are better with the API could work something out. I hope this helps.

Thanks. That's my problem - I can't select these regions by hand because they are hidden, and therefore I can't tell if they are meshed or not...

Use "Render model: Wireframe" in the GUI to select these region for meshing.

Deselect the meshed cells to remove them from the image.

eli215 and rstupplebeen,

Thanks for the suggestions. However, eli215, I know how to "see" the hidden cells, but I can't tell if they are meshed or not.

Rob - again, thanks for the suggestion, but how exactly do I do that, if there is not an option in the Tools->DisplayGroup to select/deselect the meshed cells? Are you suggesting that I manually deselect the meshed cells? If that's my only option, then I'm putting in for a feature request from Simulia.

Yip manually. You are already manually meshing each cell individually. I think that the enhancement request should be to help you avoid that issue not to view unmeshed cells. I hope this helps.

To close this thread, I received a response from Simulia Customer Service -

...a utility to find unmeshed regions will be introduced in 6.9-EF which is towards the end of this year.

After having spend years using ANSYS, I was hoping that there would already be a 'vsle,u' equivalent in ABAQUS/CAE. I was wrong. Oh well...
