CAESER II - Negative Values (Fz / Fy Forces) 1

Hello,

I'm reviewing the results of CAESER II to determine bracket suitability however values presented in the report are in some cases negative and the software has interpreted these as the worst case results.

See attached snapshot.

How would these results be interpreted? Could these be interpreted as zero as the load is displaced or taken-up elsewhere?

This is day 1 stuff. You have a +Y support, so it's stopping piping from going in -Y direction. The pipe is trying to go in the -Y direction (due to weight, thermal expansion, occasional loads, etc) but can't. This causes forces at the support. If the piping was lifting off you would see 0 lbs in certain cases depending on the situation. Also you would see a positive DY value.

So no, you can't just assume that 13,000 lbs is not real. If your support cannot handle that you need to modify supports/support locations, add spring hangers, etc.
 
Force is a vector, its sign tells you the direction, first recognized when Newton saw an apple fall from a tree.
 
so far the OP has started 4 threads and not bothered to reply to any of them so I'm not even going to try to say other than this is very basic stuff...
