Cage-moving control valve

Today we stroked a control valve and looked through the outlet port. The entire cage seemed to move up/down. Is our valve damaged? Until now, I thought that only the plug moves inside the cage. Movement of the cage means what? that the cage has been detached? In case such valve exists, what is its name?

What manufacturer, and what model number, and have you contacted them?

Not usual so your valve would appear to be damaged.

Cage should not move. It could possibly rotate but not likely.
If it moves there might be a bonnet gasket missing, or wrong installation. but then you should see leaks to surface very easily.
There could also be installed an insert cage with incorrect parts. That means you have in example a 3" body, and 2" cage & pistoo. If this is the case then you need to have the adapter installed for it.
If that adapter is missing it could move too.
Last thing, is the seat installed at the bottom of the cage?
