I was wondering if there were any formula's availible for calculating the corrosion rate of steel in soil. I had a question from a client about the corrosion rate of steel piles in the Fort Macmurray area. I took a look at NACE RP0502-2002 and there is an assumption of 16mpy for base steel but is there a better way to be a little more precise.

any help is appreciated.

Nothing that I have seen in literature. In most cases, actual coupon testing is preferred, otherwise, go with the 16mpy.

You might want to add BCT in the above.
