I am trying develop an excel spreadsheet that calculates the maximum moment in a steel pile used for excavation shorings. I am only considering lateral earth pressures.

I would like to learn how to calculate moment on excel. Does anybody have a spreadsheet that calculates moment from nonuniform loads? Any direction will help.

This should be a triangular load of 0 psf at the top of the excavation to soil density x coeffiecent of active earth pressure at the bottom of the excavation.

Try doing a search here using the "Search Posts (Keyword" option to find related posts.

Also you could check the spreadsheet forum... forum770

If you know the loads and boundary conditions you should be able to find equations in books. Then just key in the equation. If you can't calculate it by hand, a spreadsheet may not really help you.

Search the Engineering Spreadsheet forum for a program by Yakov Polyakov. It's an excellent program and I use it often.
