Calculating Tangential stress for bolting

Hi,

I’m working out the stresses induced by bolting for a non-api standard studded cross. I know the Radial and Longitudinal stresses can be transferred by the bolts, how about the tangential stresses? How to calculate this ?
Appreciate your advise.. thanks

That sketch of the connection fitting (the cross) has 4x bolts on each face - Do those represent the bolts in a bolt circle around each port? (I think so, but can't be sure.)

By tangential force, do you mean a twisting force around the centerline of each inbound pipe? The moment in each connecting pipe is not necessarily going to be axial only. A twist would be resisted by the the friction of the gasket/oring at each face, then (once the pipe has rotated) by the bolts hitting the side of each bolt hole in that flange. Almost certainly, all 4/6/8 bolt holes will NOT be striking the edge at the same time.

Every moment on the connecting pipe will be compressing the gasket/oring differently.
