How can the force exerted by a hydraulic cylinder be calculated at a specific operatic pressure. What formula will be used to calculate the force exerted by the hydraulic cylinder of a baling press. The diameter of the cylinder is 150mm, the diameter of the shaft coming out of the cylinder is 100mm and working pressure is 100 bar. I want to calculate the force exerted by this cylinder when it is pressing the material to make it in the form of a bale so that the base frame of the baling press can be designed.

Hi umairbhatti98

The formula for the force is "AREA OF CYLINDER X PRESSURE"
so for the full bore side the force is:-

(3.142*150^2/4)*10.16N/mm^2 = 179.542KN

an the annulus side you need to take the area of shaft off the area of full bore so:-

(3.142*(150^2-100^2)/4)*10.16N/mm^2 = 99.745KN

For the design of the base frame I would use the full bore figure with a good safety factor.
