Calculation of Mass of Steam

Hi Guys,

I would like some help please... I am trying to calculate the mass of steam used for washing of an industrial hose. The issue is I don't know the kW rating of the boiler. The pressure is 6 bar and the diameter of the pipe is 2.5 inches. It takes 3 minutes to wash a single hose, how do I calculate the mass of steam used in this 3 minutes? The hose is 4 inches.

You can't from this sort of information. Measure water level (volume) before and after operation, measure pressure before and after operation, measure heat input or turn heat off during operation. Then you might be able to work out mass. You certainly can't from this information.

You can make an estimate though. You can start by calculating the flow to obtain a pressure drop of 6 bar over the supply line. You can then take this flow and calculate the mass over 3 minutes.
 
Only if the supply line is open ended though. Any restriction at the end (valve, nozzle etc) will affect what is the actual pressure drop in the line.

True, but it can give you a "ballpark figure".
 
"... The hose is 4 inches." is that the length of the hose?
