Hello,

in B31.3 it is said that all unlisted components like valves and tubes and flanges need the proof by calculation that they can stand the pressure and the heat. There are calculations for the tubes in 341, but not for valves. Do you know an engineering office who can calculate unlisted valves? or any other idea how we can meet ASME with unlisted valves? Any experience from other european companies?
Greetings from Silje

Hi Silje,
B31.3 gives some guidance in para 304.7.2. You could choose to proof test, being one of the suggested routes, but the others - demonstration of extensive service experience under comparable conditions......., experimental stress analysis, or FEA type detailed stress analysis would probably need involvement of the valve manufacturer to either perform the work, or input information.
