I have a project in No CA that is considered hillside. The project is an existing cemetery with crypt buildings on the hilltop. We are planning on constructing a new crypt building mixed in among the other crypts. The building official is requiring us to provide ADA compliant routes (based on CBC) of travel from the lower public way to the elevated crypts---the site is at 20% and the distance between the crypts and the public way is almost a quarter mile. So, providing access will be an enormous cost. I'm aware of the 20-percent cost rule for 'barrier removal.' We have explored valet service, too. Anyone know of any exemptions available? Any fresh ideas?
