All,
I did a search but did not find what I wanted to ask.
What is the standard for calling out the number of instances a dimension applies to? Such as a hole dia. If it is in six places, is it (6), (6X), or just 6X? Could you also tell me where exactly this is stated in the standard please?

Thank You

ASME Y14.5M-1994 1.9.5 on page 20

Repetitive features or Dimensions. Repetitive features or dimesnions may be specified by the use of an X in conjunction with a numeral to indicate the "number of places" required. Where used with a basic dimension, the X may be placed either inside or outside the basic dimension frame.

The way we have also done it is: 6X 1.25

btcoutermash,

I agree with Ben's comment and the particular method he showed. (6X Y.YY) You'll also see this Y.YY X 6, but this method can sometimes be confusing on certain types of dims (like chamfers).
