Hi All... We got such great input on our last question that we thought we'd pose another...

We are building a high-speed motorized camera dolly. The motors we are choosing are very fast, and will drive a 200lb load at speeds up to 25mph (or even 60mph). We are looking for ideas on the best type of reduction gearing to use. (i.e. belt, helical, planetary, etc... and what brands, or perhaps custom built)

Primary concerns in order of importance are:
[ol 1]
[li]low low low vibration[/li]
[li]very quiet (low dB)[/li]
[li]highest speed input possible[/li]
[li]trying to keep sprockets/gears under 6" in diameter[/li]
[li]would like to keep it to a single stage (if possible)[/li]

[/ol]

Specs:
[ol 1]
[li]Input RPM Range: 6000 rpm minimum or up to 18,0000 rpm (ideal) if it can be done. even 8500 rpm would be an improvement[/li]
[li]Duty Cycle: Very Intermittent Use [/li]
[li]Output Torque: 9 Nm typical, 30 Nm maximum for brief periods. [/li]
[li]Possible Ratios:
[ul]
[li]3.9:1 for 6000 RPM input (m)inimum[/li]
[li]5.5:1 for 8500 RPM input would be better[/li]
[li]11.7:1 for 18,000 RPM input would be awesome[/li]
[/ul][/li]
[li]Drive Wheel Dia: 6" [/li]
[li]Motor Shaft Dia.: Ranging from 11mm dia. for slower motors to 9mm dia. for faster ones [/li]
[/ol]

From our calculations, it seems clear that the higher the RPM input, the broader the performance envelope.
Our current solution is a 3.9:1 single synchronous belt, (Gates Gt2, 5mm x 25mm) but we'd really like to go faster than this.

Thanks for any and all input.
