I am running V5r12 and attempting to utilize the draft analysis tool. Everytime I think I have an understanding of it I get proven otherwise.

My parts are drawn in body position, so diedraw is not always related to the master axis system. From all my attempts I can't seem to get the draft analysis to reflect the diedraw of my component. The Draft Analysis always seems to show me the analysis as it would relate to the master axis system. Anyone have any Ideas how I could get around this?

Thanks...

Hope this helps - it works for me.

1. Create a line to represent die draw direction.
2. Make sure view mode is set to material.
3. Select the draft analysis icon.
4. Select the icon to use the compass for the new current draft direction. (adjacent to the Inverse Tab).
5. View Reset Compass (to bring it back into view).
6. Select the part.
7. Put the compass on the line.

That's all there is to it. Note make sure you do 6. before 7. otherwise the highlight lines stay on.

Can you do a "Draft Analysis" within a Product, or do you have to be in a Catpart only?

In my trouble shooting I notice that in a Product, (while still being active on my part) Draft Analysis would not work correctly, but seemed to work fine when I was working only in the Catpart.

Any comments on this???

Well I'm having issues with Draft Analysis again, but now In Rev. 13.

I first posted my question in regards to draft analysis back on R12, and got everything working. In R13 however, some features look good and others are coming back as dielocked, when they are obviously not.

Has anyone else seen this? I'd heard throught the grape vine that it's a bug, can anyone confirm this?

When I'm doing it in 13, I move the compass to the die line/plane, and then MB3 on the compass to lock current orientation. Then I start the draft check, using the compass direction. I haven't tried the previously posted method, but I do know that when I tried to just move the compass to die direction without locking it, as soon as you click Use Compass direction, it throws the compass back to absolute orientation. If you turn off the compass option, it will return to the die direction you moved the compass to. HTH
