Can external threads (e.g. threaded end of a shaft) be added as part of the model, like adding threaded holes?

If you want true threads then read this article or post thread559-13954

If you require futher help let me know and I'll send you some threaded files I have. Been making real threads for quite some time now...You will get a performance hit using Helixs.

I don't require the actual thread to be modeled.
I'd like to select the shaft surface, select the appropriate end (face) and specify "X" thread - "Y" long.
Much as the hole wizard. Then this will be represented in the part drawing, and eliminate adding the minor diameter lines to represent the threaded portion of the shaft.

Select the circle edge where the thread is supposed to be then click on cosmetic thread and enter the values for minor dia and depth. In the drawing you will get a simplified representation of the thread.

Hope this helps,

Andrew

Also, Cosemtic Threads will only show in models and drawings if they are viewed "head on", meaning they don't show in Isometric or any other rotation other than "top" or "front", or their equivilents. "Happy the Hare at morning for she is ignorant to the Hunter's waking thoughts."
