Can I associate item number from BOM to the detail drawing of the part 1

I have an assembly drawing with the parts ballooned. The balloon number is the Item No. in the BOM. Then I go and make the detail drawing of the part, and would like to have that balloon number referenced in the title block.

Can I do this and if so how?

I have never seen it done this way. It would be a manual change.
If you need to renumber the BOM, you would have to update the part dwg.
I don't know of another way.
I suggest let the assy BOM tell which parts to use, then show "Next Assy xxxx" on the part dwg.

I doubt that there is an easy way to do exactly what you want. You can go the other direction, but not real easily either. Create a custom property in the component file and enter the item number into it. That property can then be displayed in the BoM, in the balloon and in the title block of the component drawing.

I have to shake my head every time this question crops up.

The balloon/item number is just a simple reference to a line in the BOM. Nothing more. Trying to use the balloon/item number elsewhere just makes things more complicated. The part already has a description and part number, and the sheet usually uses both.

Hi, BOBORUSH:

No, you can not. I completely agree with CorBlimeyLimey. A part has no item number. Only an assembly drawing has an item number for the part that belongs to the assembly.

I do not see a reason to put item number into the detail drawing of the part. If the same item is used in different assemblies, it will have different item number.

Best regards,

I think the important thing is to ask truly what the goal is. Is the goal to associate a drawing number with the balloon so they match? Then the thing to do is use the filename as the balloon number and Bom line item number and everything is automatically joined and updates automatically.
