Can I use buckling eigenmodes for the same part, but with different elements?

Hello,

Suppose I have calculated buckling eigenmodes for a part with shell (S4R) elements, which I want to use as a perturbation for a post-buckling analysis. Can I use these same eigenmodes (what you need are the .fil file and .prt file) if I re-construct the same part in 3d, say with C3D8R elements? Or vice versa, interchanging 2d and 3d.

No, it can’t be done this way. Abaqus uses nodal data for imperfections and they may be introduced only to the same mesh.
