Hi Everyone,

I am wondering if a 5 1/4" x 9 1/2" PSL beam can be used as a post, in case that a 5 1/4" x 7" PSL post does not provide enough axial load capacity and bearing length.

Thanks,

Alex

I'd check with a local supplier a lot of times the beam and column have different reference design values.

as an example Truss Joist addresses the use of beam sections as columns with a footnote on the Fc,parallel reference value which is significantly less than the reference value in the beam application.
