NFPA 33 allows sprinkler heads inside spray booths to be covered by thin cellophane bags to prevernt them from being splashed with paint which would make them useless.

Does this refer to water sprinkler heads only or could heads from a gaseous agent extinguishing system that meets all applicable requirements of NFPA 2001 as an ANSUL system, be covered this way?

Observe that the requirement for cellophane bags in 33 is under 9.6 which is for standard sprinklers only. The standard remains silent for other type of systems. Cellophane bags are not appropriate for other kind of systems since they typically react too fast to allow heat build-up around the bag. See 4.2.5.4 of NFPA 2001, edition 2018 where blown off caps are addressed for gaseous systems. The remaining pressure on the nozzle during discharge is typically more than enough to blow the cap away.
