Can anyone give me some advice on how i could build a timer which will count to 6 months and then trigger an alarm, and store the count it has reached when the power supply is removed. Are there any RTC chips which don't need some form of software control?

If anyone here has seen this done or knows how to do this I would be really grateful.

Are you planning on taking a six month nap )

Theoretically, you could build a timer to count for any length of time and in any units of time you want. What about building a timer with a battery backup so as power loss will not interrupt it?

i do know..they have a model called APOLLO REAL time clocked..with 12-hour/24 hour format...and month/day/year calendar..i am not sure if there is a pulse to hold a counter but either way this manufacturer have various products for different applications..try their web site or request a product book..
