Cancelled and superseded AMS specs 1

If an AMS spec is cancelled, does that mean I should use the previous revision, or not use that spec at all? I understand that if a spec is superseded, I would need to use the superseding spec, but some specs are cancelled but not superseded.

Examples:

Spec: AMS QQ-P-35 (

Revision: A Status: Cancelled
Revision: Baseline Status: Issued
This spec has been superseded by AMS 2700 (which is up to REV D).

Spec: AMS QQ-A-225/8 (

Revision: B Status: Cancelled
Revision: A Status: Reaffirmed
Revision: Baseline Status: Issued
This spec has not been superseded by any other spec.

Usually it means you need to look elsewhere. You can use cancelled standards, you just need for both parties to be aware of this and have the same copy of the document.

For this particular issue, I believe the desire is to switch to a general consensus standard like ASTM B 211 Standard Specification for Aluminum and Aluminum-Alloy Bar, Rod, and Wire.
