Hi all,

I have a query regarding canned motor sealless pumps. What will happen in case of stator liner breach?

I have understood that stator housing plays the role of secondary containment in this type of pumps.
Liquid entering the secondary containment will be in contact with the stator part of the motor, which is under voltage. Will this destroy the motor windings?

Thank you in advance.

A punctured stator liner of a canned motor pump will be a costly repair and time consuming. It often would be faster and more economical to replace the complete stator.
Modern canned motor pump has bearing wear monitor and once the indicator alarm is activated, better service the pump soonest possible. Have seen user use the CBM to check the bearing wear condition. This is big mistake as canned motor pump use hydrodynamic bearings, runs very quiet and very low vibration. It does not have the same wear indication as anti-friction bearings.

In our plant the canned pumps are equipped with bearing monitor as pumpsonly said and it is really a big help to monitor the bearing life (this is made of carbon). Replacement is better than repair.
