I have had this happen many times before. I will do a complete drawing in 3D, get the views put into a 2D format for a fab print and attempt to dimension. The dimension text is too big. I then try to use format-dimension style-modify text and change text height. This usually works...However, Sometimes it will not change the text height regardless of what number I put in. It updates the number, but I could put in .001 or 500 and it will not change the physical text height. If I copy the solid and open a new template and paste it, it will update the dimension text height fine.

i think your text style in the drawing has a defined height, so when you copy to new template (without defined text height) the dim text is changed.

so,
in ACAD

format -> text style

display your dim text style in "style name" box

verify you have 0 for text height, if not, change

then apply.

your dim text height should change now.

hope this helps

On the text toolbar, there is a text scale icon that you can use to scale down your text. OZZY84 is correct about using text style command approach. Another approach is using the properties icon to change text height. Another approach is to develop the text height you want and use match properties icon to change other text to that configuration. If one method doesn't work then try another. In conclusion, there are several ways to skin this cat.

Hope this helps,

Thank you CADSTUDENT. The match properties task does work SOMETIMES. I still do not understand what causes this. I can open up a new drawing and dimension the entire part. After it is dimensioned I try to format-dimension style-modify-text height. I change the height and the text height changes as it should (SOMETIMES). Other times I change this text height and nothing happens to the height of the existing dimensions??? Any ideas??

Have you tried the DDIM dialogs? Create and change DIM styles. Make sure the dimension in question uses the proper dim style.

IFRs - Thank you. I opened the dimension style manager and noticed <style overrides> was highlighted (I don ot know why?). I changed to standard modified the text height and exited out. The change took effect as it should. I then went back in and noticed that the <style overrides> was again highlighted. I selected standard again and then set current.
