Cannot cut out portion of surface 1

I am having a heck of a time trying to figure out why I cannot trim off parts of a surface. Please see the attached image and part file (W4). I am trying to keep only the short surface in the middle (the one that does not extend down as far as all the others). But ProE will not let me make a surface of just that portion. So I tried to use an extrusion to cut away all of the extra surfaces to either side of that middle one. But all I get is the following regen failure:

"WARNING: Unattached EXTRUDE_1 was detected."

Attempting a Trim with a datum plane also does not work.

Incidentally, the hidden import feature includes more than just the surface I pulled from it...it is actually a set of complete rings that are volumetric (except that middle ring), but not actually solid.

I am trying to upload the part file but the server keeps erroring out when I try to upload the zip.

I cannot quite understand what you want to do. In proe you can only cut a quilt at one time. If it is an imported feature you might as well delete the extra surfaces through the redefine menu.

I tried uploading it, but the server keeps err'g out. So here is a link to a Megashares file:

joeborg1 > Redefine has the same problem...none of the usual solutions seem to be able to see each one of those ribs as a separate-able entity.

Any advice or direction would be super, if anyone can help!
Thanks!

I still cannot dowload the file. What version of wf are you using?

Joe Borg

Its W4.

Were you able to get into Megashares and type in the 4-digit access code just above the download button? Megashares is confusing with all of their ads and junk.

I managed to download the part. I noticed that you have a surface copy.
When copying the surface, go in option from the surface copy dashboard and choose "exclude surfaces and fill holes" This is used to exclude loops of surfaces in one surface. Select the ones you do not want using the ctrl button. This way you will copy the single surface you want.

That's what's weird. W4 doesn't see any loops that can be excluded.

Wait a minute. I just figured out what was wrong. I had the copygeom'd feature hidden to get it out of the way. But to edit that copied surface, it needed the original CGeom feature visible for reference.

So your advice worked, when I finally figured out what I did wrong.

Thanks a billion, joeborg1!
