Cannot insert part

Good morning - Here's the puzzle of the day:
I have an assembly of approx 30 parts and when I slide the 'insert' arrow up to insert a new part, it won't allow the placement but instead slides the part back down to the bottom of the tree. It's not because of a group thing - I don't think it's an easy thing to fix. Got any ideas?

Is the assembly read-only? I'm away from Pro/E again for a while so I can't remember if this is an option within the assembly context.
 
Did you create any features in the part while it was active in the assembly?

If not, try deleting the placement references, and assemble it without references, then try moving the part & adding references afterwards.
