Canonical intersection in sketch

I try to intersect some external geometry in a sketch. When this geometry is canonical (cylinders, cones etc), instead of getting the circle as intersection´s result, I get the intersection point of the cylinder/cone axis. Of course, this happens when "Create datum" is activated, that´s the way I need it. Is there any option to change that, i.e to have the necessary circle as the intersection´s result? The longer solution is to make the intersections associative (non-datums) and then isolate them, but it´s quite annoying too...

In your sketch pick the surface of the cylinder or cone so it highlights before before you activate the intersect feature

or select the intersect feature and then right clic on the surface... other selection...Face
