Can't always select hatch

I am writing a program that draws/builds walls with rectangular polylines. The wall perimeter is defined by a closed group of lines. My program creates solid hatch around the group of closed lines in order to more easily tell if an area is outside of the group of lines. The problem is when I select an area it may not see that there is hatch in that area. Is there a minimum area that needs to be selected to guarantee that it picks up all entities? Could I be zoomed out too far? Is there an inherent problem selecting hatch? Any ideas?

It is possible that the hatch is unable to be drawn because of the pattern size. A small area with a large-scale hatch pattern often cannot be drawn because the size/scale of the hatch pattern is larger than what can be drawn within the entity.

I don't think it can be because of the hatch size because it is "Solid" hatch. I assume that "solid" hatch is everywhere within the hatched area.

If you are zoomed out too far, the selection box may include other entities, in which case AutoCAD finds the one "on top".

Selecting a solid hatch can be tricky, sometimes a single click will grab it, sometimes it won't. Selecting by crossing on an edge will always grab it, but unfortunatly it also catches the border. I usually keep clicking until it gets selected. I know this probably isn't the most productive way but I haven't found a workaround.

Try Properties/Quick select/object type (hatch)/Operator (select all).
This is how I select hatch's.

I realize this is a simple question. Is the area you are trying to hatch "inclosed"? Hatch will not work if the lines are not connected and enclosed! Hope this helps.

Yes it is enclosed. I believe that the problem is that in order to be sure that the hatch is selected, either the edge of the hatch, or a fairly large area of the hatch needed to be selected.

I'm thinking that I may try to draw lines within the area where I was using hatch because I can select the lines without any problem.
