Hello,

I was attempting to rename a part (partB) to a name (partA) that was occupied by another part. So I removed the other part (partA) from the assembly and deleted it in file explorer. Now, when I attempt SaveAs on the part I want to rename, it shows the error:

The following objects failed to save:
The new part name is already in use. Cannot SaveAs to PartA since it already exists. PartA is a part family template of member <assembly>.

But,
[ul]
[li]PartA does not exist as a component in the part navigator.[/li]
[li]PartA does not exist as a file in file explorer.[/li]
[li]If I want to close PartA, it does not exist among the parts available to close in the Close Part dialog.[/li]
[/ul]

However, if I go to Information > Parts > Loaded Parts > the PartA is listed as Not Loaded.

How can I remove PartA from the assembly?

Did you try a part cleanup on the assembly?

Yes. No difference.

the line :
"PartA is a part family template of member <assembly>."
needs to be checked, is there/ was there a "partA" which is/was the template of a part family member , where the member is a component in the assembly ?

If NX loads a part family member, it will know the name of the family template.

I have done nothing in regards to part families, there are no part family members in existence. I'm beginning to think this has something to do with WAVE links. Originally, PartA contained WAVE links from other parts, and other parts also contained WAVE links from PartA. Maybe this is the reason PartA is still in existence somewhere deep in NX, preventing me from permanently removing it.

Check to see if there are any assembly constraints, wave links, or interpart expressions that reference the part; if so, delete them. Also, try running part cleanup again with the "delete unused objects" option (in the "moderate delete actions" section). Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 "part cleanups" to flush out all the junk.
