This is supposed to make your computer faster if you uncheck.
My problem is that when I uncheck it and Apply, it doesn't stick.
When I return to the dialog it goes back to being checked again.
Windows Explorer
Tools Menu
Folder Options
View Tab
The very first check box.
XP SP3
Help. Does anyone know why this might be?
Google finds nothing about someone having this problem.
I must be very very special . . .

The real reason I want to uncheck is because Save As takes forever when connected to the network. I'm not even sure that this check box will fix it.
But if I can't uncheck it, I will never know.
A dialogue even pops up with one of those "indeterminate time remaining" "progress meters" that says
"Initializing folders" (Title Bar)
"Initializing the root folders to display"
Then a blue scrolling knight rider strobe type thing.
It has a cancel button too. But it doesn't work.
It only stops if issue the command:
ipconfig /release.
Otherwise it NEVER EVER GOES AWAY. Or at least I have never waited around to time it. (Don't have that type of time in my life)
It is obviously waiting for something over the network.
But I only want to find a place to save my file from Word 2007 on the local disk.
Yes I do have many statically mapped drives.
Yes they are password protected.
No I may not have always authenticated all of them.
No I don't know if this might be the reason.
No I will not unmap them all because i know for a fact I will use them again.
No I will not go through and authenticate all of my network drives so that I can save a file on C:\
Does anyone else in the whole world share the same frustration?
Or is this a hack made especially for me?
Seems like some type of shell hook in my Save As dialog.
