Hi, I'm just trying to find the capacity of an ASME cap (e.g. B16.9) without using any software...how can I do that? I know it's a stupid question, but I haven't found anything on web. Thanks

Look at section 2.1 of ASME B 16.9 where it states that the allowable pressure ratings for fitting in accordance with the code may be calculated the same as for straight seamless pipe of the same material, grade and wall thickness as determined by one of the codes in the ASME B 31 series (probably 31.3?)

The point is only a geometric question: what is the internal volume of the cap? In other words, how much water/gas/etc could be stored inside the cap? Sorry if before I didn't express myself correctly.

Well, you won't find that in UG-44 :)

Don't know where this info might be available, but volume of half a semi-ellipse plus a short cylinder.

Regards,

Mike

Try this site and just put in a very small vessel length - 0.01" then divide by two to get the volume in one of them

I never knew there were so many different types of end cap....

This one is also pretty good
