My local fire marshal is telling me I have to install a over head suppression system in my paint booth. I was wondering what the code was for the paint booth because I was told a fire extengisher was the only thing required.

depending on where you are located and what fire code you are under, normaly some tpe of automatic fire extingishing system is required.

if your building is sprinkled you can tap off of it normaly

if not sometimes you can tap off your domestic if there is enough pressure, and water and your city will let you

you can install a fixed pipe system that dumps powdered agent like comes out of a fire extingisher.

would get a number of extimates on all types to see which one works for your pocket book

NFPA 33 Standard for the Spray Application using Flammable and Combustible Materials go to to buy a copy.

Moto850,

Did you perform due diligence?

If your booth is in Canada or the US, then it needs an automatic fire extinguishing system.

Your least expensive option is to install a pre-engineered dry chemical automatic fire extinguishing system meeting the requirements of 2006 International Fire Code Section 1504.4 which requires compliance with NFPA 17.

Based on your posting history, I suspect your not an engineer and your sponging for free consulting. I'm not playing. Good luck, stay safe, and be careful. Spray finishing is a hazardous process.
