How can I calculate a discharge current for a car (truck) which is located underneath of a transmission line(230 kV)?

I mean what saftware can I use. Can I use HIFREQ moudle of the CDEGS program to modle? Should I model the truck as 6 grid math which are commected to each other?

You might try asking SES. From the description on their web site, it sounds like it might do what you ask.

The folks over in the Microwave and Electromagnetic Engineering forum could be helpful as well.

Also, what Keith said. If accuracy of the results are important, don't rely on the software exclusively.

Apart from knowing that automotive tires are conductive, i have never seen a figure for the actual resistance of a set of tires. What value are you using for the resistance of a tire?
Thanks

My assumption would be that the requirements are to find out how much current would be discharged when the truck is grounded, assuming that it has insulating tires.

The amount of current will be small. The electric field can induce a significant voltage on the truck can when insulated, but the amount of energy is small.

If an insulated body is placed between ground and an energised conductor, it will act as two capacitors in series.
If a high resistance body such as a vehicle is placed between ground and an energised conductor, it will act as if a resistor has been placed in series with one of the capacitors.
It depends if this is a real world problem, or a homework problem with a poorly chosen example.

Just put the car under the transmission line and hook up a ground rod and an ammeter. When hooking up the car, you should use a short around the ammeter and also be standing such that your body is only in contact with the ground clamp. You will need to try various ratings of ammeters until you get the correct range of current.

You should also have the car's radio antenna down when doing this for certain safety reasons. A better setup would be to run the grounding wire from the car to an area ouside of the power line right of way and have your ammeter and ground rod there.
