Carbon emission factor for Magnesium Hydroxide

Hello Engineers,
I am currently assessing the Green house gas emission of a lime treatment process for an industrial waste water for Silica removal. As you know Magnesium Hydroxide is an important part of the reaction however this waste water doesnt have any and I need to add some. In my calculation for green house gas emission I need to have the CO2 emission factor for magnesium hydroxide. I was wondering if anyone has the value. I have tried Gabi but it is not available there.

You would have to know the production process that is used for making the chemical and there are several different production methods. Some of the processes involve the addition of lime and evaporation. Other processes use calcination in the same manner as that for lime production.

I don't know what accuracy that you require. You can probably roughly estimate the energy use by the price of the chemical. Magnesium is a little more costly than lime.

In the silica removal process, you will still be using much more lime than magnesium, so if you used the value for lime, you would still not be that far off.
 
Thank you for your reply. the Carbon emission factor that I have for Lime is 1.012kg CO2-e/ kg Lime. What you mean is that value abit smaller than this would be a good estimation ??
 
I was trying to say that the green house gas emissions for magnesium hydroxide and lime are simliar because the production processes are somewhat similiar. Both products can be produced with a process that uses a kiln.

I don't know what kind of accuracy that you need for your report, but a reasonable assumption would be to use thesame emission factor.
