I am maintenance tech for a production plant that manufactures springs for the automotive industry. We have certain springs that are treated in a Carbonitriding pit furnace.

We are having an issue with the exhaust pipes clogging. It happens every few weeks. The amonia and nitrogen levels are correct as well as the temp. We are not getting any faults or alarms on the equipment until the blockage causes the furnace to over pressurize.

Blockage in pipe is dark black in color, hard, but brittle, and breaks down with warm water.

Any tips tricks or knowledge on the over all process would be much appreciated.
