Hi all
1. Can someone explain to me the mechanism involved in the carburizing process. In mechanism I mean chemistry in the gas and in the metal, mass transfer process etc...
2. There is a process used mostly in the production of sponge iron or direct reduced iron, which is called carburization. In this process, the reduced Fe metal is enriched with carbon by exposing it in a LP gas rich atmosphere. The Endothermic "cracking" of hydrocarbon will result in the deposition of carbon in to the Fe. Is this process similar to the carburizing heat treatment of steel?
Thanks for you contribution
